WordPress 4.1 – It’s All About the Jazz
January 5, 2015WordPress 4.3: “Billie” is Released
August 19, 2015Tomorrow, April 21st, Google is rolling out a major update in real time. This update will impact mobile searchers most profoundly — and the sites that they will or will not see in top-page search results.
If you are a small business and you want to be seen on mobile, this update will matter to you. If your site isn’t responsive (meaning that it dishes up your content in a mobile friendly platform) this can hurt your search engine rankings. It reportedly won’t impact those desktop users searching for your information online, nor will it impact tablet users quite yet. This one is aimed at smartphones.
If you think that’s not a big deal, you should remember that the most recent figures (which vary, depending on the source) estimate that 72-84% of people doing product and services searches do them on their smartphone these days — and in early 2014, the use of mobile Internet exceeded the use of PCs for Internet access for the first time in history.
Think about your own habits as an individual or a small business owner… think about how your friends and family most often access the Internet… and you will see why this matters.
If you don’t currently have a website that is mobile-friendly (which is noted on any Google search these days, if you want to take a look), now is the time. It may take a few hours, a few days or even a couple weeks to see the impact of this new algorithm — but you will see it.
